Exploring Our Faith Father Jose Rodríguez Carballo is the worldwide head of the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor, part of the Franciscan family. In June 2009, he was reelected for a second term as the General Minister of the Order. In that office he leads the 15,000 Franciscans, members of the Order of Friars Minor, living in 113 countries. Father Jose is a native of Spain, and holds advanced degrees in Sacred Scripture and Biblical Theology. He is also a member of the Vatican Congregations for the Evangelization of People and of Consecrated Life. On a U.S. visit in 2008, Father Carballo visited our studios in Cincinnati, where he spoke of the significance of the Franciscan movement's celebration of 800 years since the original inspiration of St. Francis to follow the Gospel way.
